My Practice
I am drawn to stories about people standing at the edge of transformation—characters choosing lives larger than the ones imagined for them. Again and again, I find myself returning to women and girls who step beyond the roles they've inherited, pursue impossible callings, or discover forms of power they never believed were available to them. Whether writing, directing, or dramaturging, I'm interested in stories that ask not only who we are, but who we might become.
I believe theatre is uniquely capable of making those transformations tangible. I'm most excited by work that embraces theatrical imagination, using the extraordinary to illuminate something deeply human and reveal new possibilities for how we understand ourselves and one another.
I love stories that are emotionally rich, physically expressive, and unafraid of scale—where actors can be virtuosic, worlds can expand beyond realism, and theatricality becomes an essential part of the storytelling rather than decoration.
Just as importantly, I believe the best work is built in collaboration. The rehearsal room is not simply a place to execute ideas, but to discover them. As a writer, director, and dramaturg, I am drawn to the development of new work because it asks everyone in the room to be curious: to question assumptions, test possibilities, and uncover the clearest, most compelling version of a story together. Whether I'm originating a project or helping another artist shape theirs, I'm always seeking the same thing: to create a rigorous, joyful process in service of ambitious theatre that surprises, delights, and leaves audiences seeing the world—and themselves—with new eyes.
My Story
I work across writing, directing, and dramaturgy because each offers a different way of helping ambitious stories—and the artists behind them—find their fullest expression. Writing allows me to imagine new worlds; directing gives me the opportunity to bring those worlds to life in collaboration with actors and creative teams; and dramaturgy lets me partner with writers as they discover what their stories are truly trying to become. Together, these disciplines form a single artistic practice rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and theatrical imagination.
My work has developed through collaborations with artists and institutions in both the United States and the United Kingdom. My original plays and musicals have been recognized by organizations including the O'Neill National Playwrights Conference and National Music Theater Conference, the Orchard Project, the Princess Grace Award, and the Parity Development Award, and my play The Moss Maidens won Best Play at the SheNYC Arts Summer Theater Festival. As a director I've developed new work in New York, London, and at the Edinburgh Fringe, spent four years helping shape The Outsiders as Associate Director, and recently served as Associate Director to Michael Greif on Beautiful Little Fool. I hold a BA in Theatre from Wesleyan University, an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU Tisch, and have been part of communities including the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and the TEDxBroadway Young Professionals Cohort.
As my career has grown, I've found myself increasingly drawn not only to creating stories, but to helping other artists develop theirs. My dramaturgy practice, my work in creative development at Liesl Tommy's production company Crocodile Eyes, and my curatorial work with PEN America have all deepened my belief that great stories thrive when they're championed by thoughtful collaborators and connected to vibrant artistic communities. At Crocodile Eyes, I evaluated new projects, identified promising material, and contributed dramaturgical feedback during development; each year I was at PEN America, I curated and produced a weekendlong festival of 45 literary events across two cities, reinforcing my love of bringing artists into conversation with one another and creating spaces where new ideas can flourish.
Beyond the rehearsal room, my practice continues to expand into new forms of storytelling, from screenwriting to co-founding Ghost Ship, an immersive mystery experience studio. Across every medium, I am ultimately driven by the belief that stories have the power to expand our understanding of what is possible—for ourselves, for one another, and for the worlds we imagine together.
